Carolyn Ruth (Knotts) Brown

Carolyn Ruth Knotts Brown, 74, of Nashport, Ohio, was called to her heavenly home after her battle with Alzheimer’s on Monday, April 15, 2024, at her residence, with her husband and children by her side. Carolyn was born to the late Edna Marilyn (McCombs) and Floyd Carl Knotts in Parkersburg, West Virginia on May 12, 1949.
Carolyn is survived by her husband of 53 years, Gordon R. Brown, of Nashport. They were married June 6, 1970, in Parkersburg. She is also survived by a daughter, Michelle R. Adair, of Zanesville; and son, Christopher R. Brown, of Clarksville, TN; three granddaughters, Kaitlyn N. Adair, of Clarksville, TN, Ashlee D. (Timothy) Williams, of Louisville, KY and Kylea M. Adair, of Clarksville, TN; 10 great-grandpets. Carolyn is also survived by her sister, Sharon (Gary) Riddle, of Avon Park, FL; as well as many nieces, nephews and "adopted" grandkids (Heemeyer's).
Carolyn was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, Ohio Valley College (A.A.), David Lipscomb College (B.A.) and Ohio University (M. Ed.). She went on to teach 4th grade for 30 years for Zanesville City Schools at McIntire Elementary School.
Carolyn grew up attending North End Church of Christ in Parkersburg and continued serving The Lord throughout her life. She and her husband, Gordon, are members of Norval Park Church of Christ in Zanesville. In service of The Lord, they made a trip to Guyana, South America to help conduct Vacation Bible School.
Since Carolyn loved reading, loved teaching and loved her students and fellow teachers, the family is asking that in lieu of flowers, that school supplies and/or elementary aged reading materials be donated in Carolyn’s honor. Donations will be accepted during visiting hours or may be dropped off to the Ohio Educational Credit Union, 905 Zane St., Zanesville, during normal business hours.
You may call on the family Monday, April 22, 2024, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. as well as 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Burrell Funeral Services in Zanesville. Additional calling will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 12 p.m., at Norval Park Church of Christ, 845 Arch St., in Zanesville. Jim Clegg officiating. Carolyn will be laid to rest in Brown Family Cemetery, on the Brown family homestead in Gilmer County, West Virginia.
