Leon William Gaiters

Leon William Gaiters, 78, of Zanesville, went to be with The Lord on Friday, November 15, 2019. Leon was born April 9, 1941 to the late Jesse B. And Mary Ruth (Harris) Gaiters. In addition to his parents, Leon is also preceded in death by his son, Aaron Gaiters; sisters, Peggy Gaiters and Janice Ragsdale; brother, Mark Gaiters; sister-in-law, Pamela Gaiters; niece, Amy Gaiters; great-nephew, Isaac Thomas; niece, Paula "Bug" Akins; and beloved grandmother, Fanni Burgin-Harris.

Leon leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and dedicated wife, Jacque C. (Baker) Gaiters; children, Patricia Chandler, Carolyn Burrell, Aarik Gaiters, Liggett Gaiters, Nehemiah Gaiters, Adam Gaiters, Rebekah Gaiters, Jessica Gaiters, Paige Gaiters and Hannah Gaiters; over 30 grandchildren, including two he raised as his own, Zyeon Gaiters and Brhandi Williams; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Bobby Gaiters, Connie Akins, Larry Gaiters, Bishop James Gaiters, Sr., Joyce Henderson, Becky Brown, and Beth Ann Gaiters; as well as a host of other family, and a town’s worth of friends.

Leon was a Golden Glove Boxer, a true fighter all of his life. He was an avid Ohio State University fan, who bled scarlet and grey. Leon dedicated years of service to Brockway Glass. He later worked for Walgreens in Zanesville, where he was loved by many. Leon was a long time member of the Greater Apostolic Church of Christ. He was a very friendly man who never met a stranger. To meet him was to love him. Leon was a dedicated father, grandfather, and husband. He will be deeply missed.

You may call on the family Friday, November 22, 2019 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 12 p.m., at the Anchor Church 1365 Chamberlain St., in Zanesville. Elder Terrence Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
