1924 – 2018
Leonard L. Zimmerman, 93, of Columbus, was born August 17, 1924, and passed away at his home on July 30, 2018. He was a lifelong, dedicated, and active member of Antioch Baptist Church where he held several positions during his tenure; member, officer and instructor with both the International Church Ushers Association of Columbus and Ohio; and past Co-Chairmen of the School of Ushering with the National United Church Ushers Association of America. Leonard retired from the US Postal Service in 1986. He was a member and officer with the National Alliance of Postal and Federal Employees Local 605, and member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 78. In retirement, Leonard volunteered and worked as a driver for various businesses. He eventually became a driver and support staff for Crosby Funeral Home, Burrell Funeral Services, Caliman Funeral Services, J. Martin Smith Mortuary and Smoot Funeral Services until retiring in 2015. He was preceded in death by his wife Wanda Reeves Zimmerman; parents Edward (Carrie) Zimmerman; brothers Augustus and William Zimmerman; in-laws Raymond (Annie) Reeves; brother-in-law Clifford Holcomb; and sister-in-law Rachel Zimmerman. Leonard is survived by his children Deborah McCoy, Michael (Tonia) Zimmerman, Twila Fultz, Dwayne Zimmerman; brothers-in law James Reeves, Harold Ragland; sisters-in-law Juanita Zimmerman, Beatrice Holcomb, Lucille Ragland, Alva Reeves; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives, friends, the Antioch Baptist Church Family, the ICUA of Columbus, the ICUA of Ohio, and NUCUAA. Homegoing Celebration will be Saturday, August 18 at Antioch Baptist Church, 1015 Chambers Rd. at 10:00 a.m. with visitation at 8:30 and Usher’s Ritual at 9:30.
