Eber E. Opdyke, Jr., 97, passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at his home. Eber was born December 26, 1924 in Newark, Ohio to the late Eber and Louise (Glonsinger) Opdyke, Sr. In addition to his parents, Eber is also preceded in death by his sister, Helen (Opdyke) Szana; and the love of his life, Patricia (Davis) Opdyke.
Eber leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Debby Opdyke, of Libscomc, TX, Karen (Robert) Poland, of Zanesville, OH, and Bret (Cheryl) Opdyke, of Newark, OH; grandchildren, Sean (Karolina) Poland, of Boras, Sweden, Shannon (Jeff) Clemens, of Delta, Colorado, Tiffany Everhart, of Manchester, Ohio, and Amber Morgan, of Newark, Ohio; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Naomi and Rachel Clemens, of Delta, Colorado, Kimberly, Katelinn, Kristoffer and Kenrick Poland, of Boras, Sweden, John, Jr., Nina and Trinity Everhart, of Manchester, Ohio, Isaiah Morgan, of Texas, Elaina Schlosser, of Jacksonville, Florida and Caleb McGovern, of Columbus, Ohio; many cousins; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Eber designed and built the house where he raised his family and he continued to live until his death. Earlier in life, Eber enjoyed riding motorcycles and taking the boat out with his wife and children. His favorite pastime was riding his new mower and pulling trees out of his creek.
Eber was a long-time resident of Zanesville, OH. He started two businesses here in Zanesville: Opdyke Bottle Gas, Avondale, OH; Zanesville Fabrications, Zanesville, OH. He was also currently a distributor of Aim Enterprises, Barley Life and other natural health products, which his children will continue on. Eber was an active member of the Zanesville Seventh-day Adventist Church, where he served in various capacities. When something needed fixed at the church, they would call on Eber.
Eber served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was very proud to be a veteran. Eber also sang in the U.S. Navy Choir, which he enjoyed. He wore his Navy cap everywhere with pride. Charities that Eber was passionate about and supported faithfully were ADRA, It Is Written and Your Story Hour. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to one of these charities.
Per Eber's wishes, cremation has been chosen and a memorial service will be held at a later date. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
