Icyle Cleona (Fowler) Brent

Icyle Cleona Fowler Brent, 92, of Zanesville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

Icyle was born in Culter, OH, on January 31, 1931. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Della (Harris) Fowler. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her son, Bruce Lawrence Norris; her brothers, Elza, Paul, Isaac, Howard, and Naamon; her sisters Georgia, Margaret, Mary, and Ruth; and a host of family and friends. 

She worked for Ballas Egg, Drake's Nursing Home, the High Rise Senior Center, and a couple of other places. 

She began to play the harmonica and guitar at a young age, which led to her playing the piano and organ. She was blessed to play all of these instruments by ear. There wasn't a song she couldn't play. Music was what she loved and enjoyed most. 

She was a member of the Church of God and Saints of Christ. She sat in the choir, was church secretary, Y.P.I.L. instructor, sat on the daughters quorum, and was a choir mistress. She worked hard in the church and did whatever her hands could find to do. 

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, eight children, Brenda Newman, Victoria Norris, Larry Norris, all of Zanesville, Kathy (Tim) Coleman of Columbus, OH, Janice Crenshaw, Beverly Norris, Greg Norris all of Zanesville, OH, and Stephanie Norris of the home; 22 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; three step children David and Levi Brent of Zanesville, and Tina McKinnie of Akron, OH; as well as host of other family and friends. 

Mom and the family give a special thank you to her niece Veronica and her husband Butch Smith. They were highly appreciated. She loved you so much. 

We would also like to thank Shrivers Hospice staff Pam, Paula, Teresa, and Stephanie for taking such good care of our mother. 

Services to be held Sunday, March 26, 2023,  at the Church of God and Saints of Christ, 516 Cliffwood Avenue. The viewing is from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The funeral will begin at 1 p.m. The repass is to follow immediately after the service downstairs in the multipurpose room. Burial will take place in Woodlawn cemetery, Monday, March 27, 2023 at 11 a.m. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
