Lela "Judy" Belle (Bates) Joseph

Lela Belle (Bates) Joseph, known by many as Judy, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024. Lela was born September 12, 1937, in Ava, Ohio, daughter of the late Bertha (Harper) and Robert Bates. In addition to her parents, Lela is also preceded in death by her children's father, Carl F. Joseph; and her beloved daughter, Deborah Joseph.

Lela leaves to carry her in their hearts, her children, Carla (Kevin) West of Zanesville, Stanley (Lind) Joseph, of Ripley, TN, Cindy Joseph of Zanesville, Kimberly Joseph of Zanesville, Sam (Sally) Joseph, of Ocean Springs, MS, and Jon Lanning of Zanesville; 12 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, including special great granddaughter born on Lela's birthday, Isla Lynn Schroff; special niece, Lisa Laipply; and a host of other loved ones and friends.

Lela enjoyed crafting; she was very creative. She also liked to spend time watching the cooking channel. Judy was a dedicated member of Southside Baptist, now Refuge Church. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. Judy will be missed by all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to, Refuge Church or Genesis Morrison House Hospice.

You may call on the family on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. with funeral services starting at 11 a.m. at Burrell Funeral Services in Zanesville. Burial will follow the funeral services in Halleys Ridge Cemetery in Ava Ohio. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
