Martin Albert Bates

Martin Albert Bates, 77, of Zanesville, Ohio passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at Genesis Hospital. Martin was born December 7, 1945 in Zanesville, son of the late Martin and Julia (Linneman) Bates. In addition to his parents, Martin is also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Clark; and his step-son, whom he loved as his own, Alan Hicks.
Martin leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife of 30 years, Iris Rose (Fogle) Bates; his beloved children, Lisa Jamiel, of Zanesville, Chad Bates, of Columbus, Harry Bates, of Caldwell and Brenda (Chuck Bittner) Bates, of Zanesville; several grandchildren, including Cody Bittner and Michael Hicks; and a host of other loved ones. 
Martin was a Untied States Veteran, having dedicated service to the Army. He went on to pursue a career as a carpenter. Martin was an avid wheel horse repairman. He loved to find and restore wheel horses and owned an extensive collection. Martin was a good, Christian man who treated everyone with kindness. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Per Martin's wishes, an immediate burial with graveside service will be held Friday, January 20, 2023 at 11 a.m., in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, 143 Pleasant Grove Rd, in Zanesville. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
