Norma Jean (Parsons) Nickell

Norma Jean "Go Get A Switch" Nickell, 85, of Zanesville, Ohio, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Norma was born July 11, 1937 in Philippi, West Virginia, daughter of the late Ray Perkins and Virginia McFarland. In addition to her parents, Norma is also preceded in death by her sons, Johnny and Roger Johnson; her daughter, Donna Johnson; siblings, Linda, Mary, Lenny and Sid; and her granddaughter, Wendy.
Norma leaves to cherish her many life lessons, her daughter, Virginia Johnson; her son, Donnie Caldwell; 20 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly; siblings, Cecil (Freda) Lake, Jake (Barbara) McFarland, Barbara "Mickey" McFarland and Jackie (Dwight) Newell; best friend, Judy Hatfield; special cousin, Katie, of Fairmont, WV; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of other family and friends.
Norma was a wonderful woman with an amazing personality. She loved to have fun, whether it be a game of cards that would last all night long, or a trip to Wheeling. She was the coolest mom and grandma. Norma worked for many years in the hospitality industry as a waitress and also as a caregiver to those in need. She was the queen of apple butter making. Norma was everything to her family, but she also meant the world to her many bonus children and grandchildren. She was a generous and loving woman who never turned anyone away from her home, especially her table. Norma always had "room for one more, even if it was a piece of floor". She valued stability and discipline, but taught it all with love straight from her heart. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on through all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
You may call on the family Thursday, January 12, 2023 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Norma's home, 564 Cliffwood Ave., in Zanesville. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Burrell Funeral Services, in Zanesville. Norma will be laid to rest in the family cemetery in Philippi, West Virginia on Monday, January 16, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
