Rebecca "Becky" Johnson Obituary

Rebecca “Becky” Elizabeth (Howe) Johnson, earned her Heavenly Wings on May 4, 2021, at the age of 68. She was born February 15, 1953, to the late John and Lillian (Holbert) Howe. In addition to her beloved parents, Becky was preceded in death by her grandson, Virgil Johnson IV; sisters, Carolyn “Toni” Mann, Vanessa Harrison, Edith Howe and Susan Whitehead; brothers, Clarence “Bear” Simmons, William Curtis and John Howe; grandmother, Edith Baker; mother and father in-law, Virgil and Geraldine Johnson; aunts, Leona Bishop and Caroline Viney; and three nephews.
She is lovingly survived by her wonderful husband of 49 years, Virgil Johnson, Jr.; daughter, Victoria (Ty Sr.) Dowdy, Columbus, Ohio; sons, Virgil Johnson III, Michael (Ashley) Johnson Sr. and Marques Johnson Sr. all of Zanesville; grandchildren, Tim, Chyna, Kade, Kobe, Taevon, Ty Jr., Kalli, Baylee, Mikenna, Michael Jr., Marques Jr., Madden, Kennedi and Lincoln; four great-grandchildren; brother, Victor (Cheryl) Howe; sisters, Rayshell (Frank) Wiseman and Rita Howe; brothers in-law, Gary Harrison, John Whitehead, Michael (Shirley) Johnson, Gary Johnson and Donald Johnson; sisters in-law, Barbara Howe, Deborah (Sheldon) Dalton, Phyllis Smith, Julie (Willie) Beasley, Melanie Goff and Jill (Ralph) Dalton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; and best friends, Bev Sowers, Barb Young and Sharon Massey.
Becky worked at The Nutrition Group prior to her illness. She previously worked at Foxfire High School and LEAR Corporation where she retired after 25 years. Becky was baptized at a very young age. She was an active member of Church of God and Saints of Christ. Her everyday morning ritual was reading her bible and drinking her coffee. She loved the Lord and served Him faithfully. In her spare time, she loved going to the slot machines, watching football and participating in all the football pools. She always rooted for the underdog, which explains why she was a die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan. Becky also enjoyed looking her best. She was very particular about her appearance especially her beautiful hair. She traveled to Columbus every other week to get her hair done by “Nish” Lewis-McGraw her favorite stylist of over 25 years.
Becky was loving, caring and had a very giving heart. She was always there to help anyone in need and did not expect anything in return. Her love and devotion to her family was immeasurable. She was a great mother and her children meant the world to her. However, Becky’s pride and joy were her grandchildren. She loved them endlessly and they equally adored their MaMa; especially her cooking. No matter the day or time, she made sure they had a full course meal when they came to visit. She had a special bond with each one of them. She will be deeply missed by all.
You may call on the family Tuesday, May 11, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., with funeral service to follow at 1 p.m., at Burrell Funeral Services. Elder Nathaniel Norris and Elder Justine Sowers officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
