Robert Lee Sommers

Robert Lee Sommers, 83, of Zanesville Ohio, passed away on August 7, 2025. Robert was born on May 25, 1942, son of Clarence and Lillian (Friensinger) Sommers. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his son, Robert Lee Sommers Jr.; seven siblings, Dorothy, Charles, Walter, Conrad, Mary, Elizabeth and Nancy. 

Robert leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved wife of 59 years, Karen (Baker) Sommers; one son, Brent (Nancy) Sommers of Columbus; granddaughter, Alexis Sommers; daughter-in-law, Marcie Sommers and her daughters, Briana Green and Brooklyn Predmore. 

Robert served his country as a veteran of the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 as a Yoeman. He served the Zanesville Police Department from 1966 to 1990 and retired as a Lieutenant in 1990. He served as Interim Chief of Police in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Zane Lodge #5. Robert enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and golfing.

You may call on the family, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 10 am until 12 pm with funeral services starting at 12 pm at Burrell Funeral Services in Zanesville. The FOP will honor Bob’s serving at 11:45 am prior to funeral services. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. BURRELL FUNERAL SERVICES is serving the family.
